3 Things You Should do Before Your Summer Internship Ends
School is right around the corner, and you will soon be waving goodbye to the company, business, or organization that you have been putting your hard work with all summer. Before head back to school and salute a farewell to all of co-interns, bosses, and the friendly faces around work, here’s a list of things you’ll be glad you did before hitting the road.
1. Do some last minute networking.
If you have business cards, now is the time to pull out the few you have left. Make sure your direct boss has one, your co-interns, and anyone you have worked along with throughout your internship. Connect with them on LinkedIn, Facebook, and exchange emails. You never know when your path may cross with someone you’ve worked with during an internship, so stay connected.
2. Invite your boss to a thank you lunch.
Nothing says “thank you” quite like food. Writing a thank you note will compliment this gesture. While depending on your boss’s availability, they may or may not be able to grab lunch with you. It still would be courteous to insist. This will give you an opportunity to discuss your internship experience, your gratitude, and anything else that may come up.
3. Take Pictures.
You never know when you’ll be in a similar environment again. Capture the moment on camera. Make a scrapbook or portfolio. Pose with your co-interns, boss, and important figures and landmarks. Show off to your friends and family what you have been doing all summer.
Now you can leave, but make sure to update your resume and change your LinkedIn internship status. You are no longer a summer intern, but at least you took advantage of all of the opportunities while working in your internship program. It’s time to head back to school and utilize all of those new skills you have gained.
